Acupuncture for Motor Vehicle Accident

When you have sustained injuries from an auto accident, everyday activities may become a challenge, and recovery slow.

A few years back, I was hit from behind while pulling out of my driveway.  I had no idea that such slow-moving vehicles, (mine at a slow roll and the other barely 15mph) could create such an impact.  I was thrown around the car hitting my head on the driver’s side window as the car spun around.  It was very fast and seemed very violent in nature.

I sustained a shoulder injury and severe whiplash in the incident,

though in the time immediately following the accident, I felt little or nothing.

I checked myself out and exchanged info, and returned to my life as usual.

About 3 hours after the accident, I went to my regular daily yoga class. It was there that I became aware of the first twinges of discomfort in my neck. Still, I did not register that there was truly anything wrong, I went about my daily routine.  On the third day, I woke up almost unable to move.  My neck was stiff and my shoulder was extremely painful.

I called a friend of mine who is an acupuncturist and asked if I could see her that day.  She kindly fit me in.

The acupuncturist treated me for whiplash with needling, cupping and Moxa.

I left that day feeling so much better but still with somewhat decreased range of motion from my injuries.  She suggested I come again in a couple of days.

Long story short, I saw the Acupuncturist a few times a week for a few months and I know without her help I would probably still be in rough shape.

Whiplash injuries are much more debilitating than one might think because they have the added feature of shock and trauma when there is such a deep injury accompanied by trauma, treatment is essential early and often.

What was fortunate, and I discovered after my first treatment, full coverage for my Acupuncture treatments was included with my Auto Insurance.

If you are ever in an accident, my first-hand advice is to seek treatment soon and often.  It’s essential to full recovery and returns to normal activity.
